Segeyaro's Sharks move confirmed

James Segeyaro is returning to the NRL, signing with Cronulla Sharks after being released by Leeds Rhinos.

The hooker joined the Rhinos from Penrith Panthers in 2016, but was unwilling to return for the following season despite being contracted, citing homesickness.

The Rhinos eventually agreed to release Segeyaro to allow the 26-year-old to complete his move to NRL premiers the Sharks.

A veteran of 103 NRL games, he has signed with the Sharks for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

"I'm excited to have him in my squad," Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said.

"James has missed a fair bit of training and we probably won't see the best of him for a few weeks however he is a quality player and one that will certainly add something to our team.

"He gives us some real competition at hooker and Jayden [Brailey] will need some help during the year and James will provide that."

Segeyaro, the 2014 Dally M Hooker of the Year, will be available for the Sharks once his contract is registered by the NRL.

The Sharks, who have lost two of their opening three games of the season, face the Parramatta Eels on Saturday.
