Chris Sandow has been charged with public nuisance after the former Warrington Wolves halfback was alleged to have been involved in a street brawl.
The 27-year-old Australian, who walked out on Super League club Warrington last November, is to appear in court next week following the emergence of a video seemingly showing him fighting with another man.
Ex-South Sydney Rabbitohs and Parramatta Eels man Sandow not named by police, but footage posted online seemed to show him throwing punches as a crowd, which included children, watched on.
A statement released by Queensland Police said: "Police have charged a 27-year-old man from Cherbourg with public nuisance following investigations into an alleged incident yesterday.
"This is part of an investigation by police into an alleged ongoing disturbance which has occurred at Cherbourg on the weekend.
"As a result the man has been issued with a Notice to Appear in the Murgon Magistrates Court on January 10.
"More people are expected to be charged.
"Investigations are continuing."
Sandow has not been fixed up with another club since leaving Warrington with a year to run on his contract.
