Former national bodybuilder Sazali Samad decided to leave the Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF) after being reprimanded for participating in a competition while serving a lengthy ban.
The 10-time Mr Universe and nine-time Mr Asia, who was handed a four-year ban in 2015 for testing positive for steroid, competed and won in China
It was suggested that he could be facing further punishment
for defying the suspension.
However, Sazali would not wait for the MBBF disciplinary committee's decision as he decided to leave the association, which he had represented for 27 years, and compete professionally so that he could provide for his family.
"For me, [the situation] is unfair," he told Astro Arena on Wednesday.
"Other suspended athletes, including those serving lifetime bans, are free to join competitions outside the country, while disciplinary action will be taken against me."
