Nicol David's defence of her Commonwealth Games gold medal in women's singles ended after she lost to New Zealand's Joelle King 3-1 in the semi-finals on Sunday.

The Malaysian squash queen, who won the previous two editions, struggled to keep up with the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, losing 11-13 and 5-11 in the first two sets.

She managed to take the third set 11-1, but eventually conceded the game in the fourth set as she went down 5-11.

Following the defeat, the 34-year-old showed good sportsmanship and praised her opponent.

"For me, Joelle played a great game and used the right tactics," she told Astro Arena.

"I did my best and now I want to focus on winning the bronze medal."

David will face Wales' Tesni Evans in the bronze medal match on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nafiizwan Adnan was also unsuccessful in his bid to reach the men's singles final after losing to England's James Willstrop 6-11, 10-12, 4-11, and will take on either Wales' Joel Makin or New Zealand's Paul Coll for bronze.
