Azizulhasni Awang believes Malaysian men's track cycling's future is in good hands with several young talent rising through the ranks in the past few years.

Shariz Efendi Shahrin finished runner-up behind Azizulhasni in the men's keirin event at the 2017 SEA Games, while Shah Firdaus Sahrom bagged bronze at the Track World Cup in Los Angeles last year.

Fadhil Zonis and Khairil Nizam Rasol, who were part of the gold-medal winning trio alongside Shariz in the men's team sprint at Kuala Lumpur 2017, also clinched podium finishes at the 2017 Track Asia Cup in India.

"A few years ago, it was difficult and I did not really see anyone who could take over my place one day, but right now, we have good promising talent," the keirin world champion told StadiumAstro.com.

"We now have four young sprinters already stepping up to the next level and they have been training with me in Melbourne and progressed really well.

"In the future, I hope they will step up to the same level as me and take over my position."

Although the 30-year-old was pleased with the progress made by his juniors, he would not be calling time on his career yet.

"To be honest, I have not thought about the exact time to retire yet," he said.

"At some point, I have to think about it, but for the time being, I want to focus on Tokyo 2020 and deliver a gold medal, which is my last target of my career.

"I have achieved so much in this sport for the past 10 years at the elite level, missing the Olympic gold medal.

"If I win it, maybe I can retire early, but if I don't, I might try again at the next Olympics."
