Thomas Lemar has agreed terms for his impending transfer to Atletico Madrid from Monaco, it was confirmed on Monday.

Atletico announced last week they had reached a preliminary agreement with the Ligue 1 club to sign Lemar, who has been consistently linked with a move away from Stade Louis II since enjoying a hugely impressive campaign in the club's title-winning 2016-17 season.

And the Europa League winners released a statement on Monday revealing the 22-year-old has signed his contract, with only a medical and the finalisation of the agreement with Monaco needed to complete the switch.

Atletico also revealed new deals had been handed to Antoine Griezmann and Lucas Hernandez, running until 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Lemar had nine goals and 10 assists as Monaco dethroned Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, attracting interest from Premier League side Arsenal, among others.

But the collapse of Alexis Sanchez's proposed switch to Manchester City reportedly put paid to Arsenal's hopes of taking Lemar to Emirates Stadium.

Atletico reluctantly sold both Yannick Carrasco and Nicolas Gaitan to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang in February, well after the LaLiga transfer window had closed.

Though a depleted Atletico still finished second in the league ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid and beat Marseille in the Europa League final, the Rojiblancos have been keen to reinforce their attacking options.

And with Lemar's deal edging closer to completion and Griezmann unexpectedly tied down to a new contract, Atletico can have reason to believe they are capable of challenging domestically and in the Champions League.

Lemar's France team-mate Griezmann had been strongly linked with Barcelona, but revealed his intention to stay last week and will once again be the focus of the Atletico attack in 2018-19.
