Fans watching Saturday's NHL Stadium Series game at Heinz Field did not expect to see real penguins.
Before the Pittsburgh Penguins took on the rival Philadelphia Flyers in the outdoor interstate showdown, seven penguins from the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium waddled across the ice.
The birds are named Crosby, Kessel, Kunitz, Letang, Malkin, Murray and Sully after players and the coach of the defending Stanley Cup champions.
And they appeared to talk strategy with the team's mascot before the game got underway.
The Penguins hosted another surprise visitor, as Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown pumped up the crowd before face-off.
Steelers linebacker Arthur Moats was also in attendance.
The added support clearly worked to Pittsburgh's advantage, as the Penguins went on to defeat the Flyers 4-2.
