Subahan Kamal, who will be tendering his resignation as president of Football Association of Selangor (FAS) in an executive committee meeting on Thursday, wants Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to take over his role.

The Raja Muda of Selangor has been touted to take on a leadership role at Selangor in recent years, and the 52-year-old believes the time is ripe.

"I am confident that the best individual to lead the FAS is Tengku Amir Shah," he said during a phone interview with Astro Arena on Wednesday.

"[Despite my departure] I will still be an activist and fan of Selangor football."

Subahan, who is also president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC), explained the reason behind his departure was to focus on Malaysian hockey.

"Work commitment is an issue. I want to focus more on hockey because we have a good chance of going to the Olympics in Tokyo.

"Although we have already qualified for the Hockey World Cup, I am optimistic that the men's team will be able to win a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, which will book our ticket to the Olympics at the same time," he added.
