Marc Leishman dazzled at the AT&T Byron Nelson as the Australian earned a three-stroke lead after the opening round.

Leishman carded a flawless 10-under-par 61 to set the early pace at Trinity Forest in Dallas on Thursday – the best round of his career.

The Byron Nelson is being staged at its new home – Trinity Forest – for the first time after bidding farewell to the Four Seasons Resort and Club.

And three-time PGA Tour winner Leishman settled into the fresh surroundings, not dropping a shot as he holed six birdies and two eagles.

Leishman made a flying start to proceedings, eagling his first hole before reeling off back-to-back birdies at the sixth and seventh, while he added another eagle and four birdies on the back nine.

American duo J.J. Spaun and Jimmy Walker closed out the day as Leishman's nearest challengers at seven under.

Sam Saunders, Aaron Wise, Keith Mitchell, Abraham Ancer, Jonathan Byrd, Ethan Tracy, Peter Uihlein and Tyler Duncan are a stroke further back.

Reigning champion Billy Horschel posted a 68 to be three under after 18 holes, a shot better off than former world number one Jordan Spieth.

A three-time major winner, Spieth – who was tied for 41st at The Players Championship – had three birdies and a bogey on a steady day, when Leishman sizzled.

As for two-time champion Sergio Garcia, the 2004 and 2016 winner recorded a 72 to be 11 shots adrift.
