The U.S. women's national team is just hours away from opening the defense of its FIFA Women's World Cup title.

While the team cruised to its eighth consecutive World Cup since the tournament began in 1991 — winning the inaugural championship and then earning the 1999 and 2015 titles — the U.S. will likely have a tougher time repeating its championship against a talented field, including host country France.

The U.S. is currently favored along with France to win it all, while Germany and England are also among the favorites.

The national team faced both France and England in friendlies leading up to the World Cup.  But before the USWNT punched its ticket to the World Cup, it had to qualify.

The team powered its way through the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, and a quick look at the numbers shows just how dominant the U.S. was during qualifying:

Here's a detailed look at the Americans' journey in the CONCACAF Championship, which served as the qualifying tournament for the World Cup.

Oct. 4, 2018: 6-0 win over Mexico

The U.S. had previously faced Mexico twice before the CONCACAF Championship. In both games, the USWNT won by a margin of at least three goals (4-1, 6-2). The team doubled its success against its southern neighbors to open the qualifying tournament.

The Americans ended up playing all three of their Group A games in Cary, North Carolina. Morgan and Megan Rapinoe led the team in its first 6-0 victory over Mexico. The pair both scored a brace as the USWNT started its CONCACAF shutout streak. Ertz and Tobin Heath also chipped in goals as part of the team's high pressure attack.

Rapinoe opened with a goal in the third minute after sending a Lindsey Horan assist to the back of the net. The team dominated all game with its fast-paced play. In the first half alone, the U.S. outshot Mexico 11-0.

The USWNT's next five goals all came in the second half.

Oct. 7, 2018: 5-goal shutout against Panama

Panama entered the contest fresh off a 3-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago, but didn't have anything to celebrate in its second game as the USWNT breezed to another victory.

Carli Lloyd highlighted the Americans' second win of qualifying with a hat trick. Her three goals helped push the USWNT past Panama, 5-0.

What's more, the team continued to showcase its defensive talent. When the U.S. entered the game, it had not given up a goal in the competition in 694 minutes, spanning six full games.

The streak continued to seven full games ... and counting.

Oct. 10, 2018: 7-0 victory against Trinidad and Tobago

The U.S. marked its most dominant win of the tournament against Trinidad and Tobago. The 7-0 victory featured a brace from Morgan and Rose Lavelle as well as goals from Crystal Dunn, Heath and Horan.

The match was the final game of the group stage for the USWNT.

The U.S. once again had control from the the opening kickoff to the final whistle. In the group stage, the Americans ended up outscoring their opponents a whopping 18-0.

Oct. 14, 2018: 6-0 win vs. Jamaica

The USWNT officially qualified for the World Cup after defeating Jamaica in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Championship as the top three finishers automatically earned berths to France.

The win came in dominant fashion with a six-goal shutout.

The U.S. scored its first goal in the opening minutes with Heath finding the net to set the team up for the win. She added another goal later in the half for only her second career multi-goal game. Rapinoe, Ertz and Morgan also scored to give the U.S. a 5-0 advantage at halftime.

The Americans ended up outshooting Jamaica 15-1 in the first half alone.

Morgan capped off the strong scoring in the second half on her way to her 100th international goal.

With the victory, the U.S. was unbeaten in its last 25 matches (22-0-3) and outscored its opponents 89-17 while scoring in all 25 games.

The U.S. went on to defeat Canada 2-0 in the CONCACAF Championship final with goals from Lavelle and Morgan.

Since then, the U.S. was tested in a friendly against France, where it lost 3-1, and in 2-2 draws against Japan and England in the SheBelieves Cup, but defeated Australia, Belgium, South Africa, New Zealand and Mexico in friendlies in recent months, posting clean sheets in the final four matches before heading to France.

The Americans' first World Cup group stage game will come June 11 against Thailand.
