Cristiano Ronaldo became the player with the most wins in Champions League history as Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 victory at Bayern Munich.

The holders came from behind to win the first leg of the semi-final tie at the Allianz Arena, with Marcelo and Marco Asensio overturning Joshua Kimmich's opening goal.

It means Ronaldo has now won 96 matches in the competition, one more than his former Madrid team-mate Iker Casillas.

The victory, which was Madrid's 150th in the Champions League, came despite the Portugal star seeing his own remarkable scoring run in Europe come to an end.

It was the first time Ronaldo failed to get a goal in a match in this competition since May 2017, in the semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid – a run of 11 consecutive games.

It was also the only time since February last year that Ronaldo failed to register a shot on target in a Champions League game, and the first time in 39 matches in all competitions for the club.
