Kerala Blasters head coach David James did not take to heart Dimitar Berbatov's jab at his coaching ability.

The former Manchester United striker played under James at Kerala Blasters in the 2017/18 Indian Super League campaign.

After their team finished the season in sixth and failed to reach the play-offs in March, the Bulgarian took to Instagram to vent his frustration with '#worstwannabecoachever' and '#worsttacticaladvice' hashtags.

He soon left the club reportedly for a coaching stint in the United Arab Emirates, while James remained as Kerala Blasters' head coach.

During a guest pundit appearance on Astro SuperSport, the former England goalkeeper commented on their relationship.

"He is entitled to his opinions," James told SuperSport host Michelle Lee and Swarna Naidu on B4KO on Sunday.

"I'm not going to say what went on in my time with Berbatov; I think he knows I treat everyone the same and I think that is the key thing, but sometimes people don't want to be treated the same.

"I think the environment has to be equal to everyone irrespective of what you have done, and I wish him all the best with his youth team coaching in Dubai."
