Kuwait would put the Harimau Malaya squad to the test in an international friendly match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in early June.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam said the warm-up match would be part of the national team's preparation before facing Thailand in Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup/2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in Bangkok on June 9.

"We have just received the confirmation from Kuwait who agreed to hold a friendly match against the national squad in June, and I see it as a great opportunity for coach Tan Cheng Hoe to evaluate our players' preparations before leaving for Bangkok," he told Bernama on Monday.

He previously confirmed that 2019 Arabian Gulf Cup winners Bahrain agreed to hold a warm-up match with Malaysia in Bukit Jalil in early March.

That friendly game would prep the Harimau Malaya squad ahead of their visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a 2022 World Cup/2023 Asia Cup qualifier on March 26, and their qualifying home match against Vietnam at the National Stadium five days later.

Malaysia currently sit in second place in Group G with nine points after five matches, having a good chance to advance into the final qualifying round of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in China if they continue making positive results in the remaining three matches.

The last time Malaysia qualified for the Asian Cup final round was in 2007 when they co-hosted the tournament with Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
