Quick-Step Floors claimed their fourth gold medal in the men's team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships with a stunning display in Innsbruck.

A gruelling 62.4 kilometre route in Austria started slowly for the Belgian team as they trailed by 12 seconds at the first time check, but their six-man crew turned on the style to storm to the title.

By the top of the day's only climb they were less than a second behind defending champions Team Sunweb, and their sensational descending grabbed victory by 18.46 seconds.

Quick-Step stopped the clock as massive 56 seconds faster than the time set by Mitchelton-Scott and then watched as team by team failed to eclipse their time of 1:07:25.94.

At the second checkpoint only Quick-Step, BMC and Sunweb looked in contention to secure the win, continuing their domination of the event that has seen all three previously win gold.

However, it was Quick-Step who prevailed as Tom Dumoulin's Sunweb pipped BMC and Rohan Dennis to silver by less than a second.

"We are so happy and the feeling is incredible," said Yves Lampaert. "We were not the favourites but we have a very strong team.

"There were a lot of young riders but very talented young riders. I was confident we would do a great performance but to win is different, and with that time gap also.

"We went full, full, full gas on the descent to the finish. To win the Worlds team time trial is really special and a big satisfaction because we trained a lot for it."
