Chris Froome says Team Sky will do everything they can to stay together beyond 2019, racing with "the same values, focus and desire" under a new name.

Sky announced on Wednesday that they will end their involvement in cycling at the end of next year, plunging the future of one of the sport's most successful teams into uncertainty.

Six-time Grand Tour winner Froome is among the British outfit's stars, however, and he is adamant that all involved will work to ensure they have a future as a group.

"First off, a massive thank you to Sky," he wrote on Twitter. "They have been brilliant partners and it's been an incredible journey we have shared together.

"They have helped me personally every step of the way and I will always be grateful for their support.

"And we are not finished yet by any means. Everyone at Team Sky has got big ambitions for 2019 and this news has made us more determined than ever to make them happen.

"I can't predict the future but I can say this with absolute certainty: this is a really special team.

"We plan to be together in 2020 if at all possible and we will be doing everything we can to help make that happen - in different colours with a new partner, but with the same values, focus and desire to win."

Team Sky, launched by Dave Brailsford in 2010, have enjoyed 322 wins, with Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas joining Froome in winning Tour de France yellow jerseys.
