Lasith Malinga will captain Sri Lanka and Angelo Mathews has been recalled for the limited-overs series in New Zealand.

The merry-go-round of Sri Lanka skippers has continued under a new selection panel, with paceman Malinga given the nod to lead the white ball sides.

Malinga was overlooked for international limited-overs cricket for a year before being called up to face Bangladesh in September.

Niroshan Dickwella has been named as vice-captain for three one-day internationals and a solitary Twenty20 encounter, which will follow the two-match Test series.

Dinesh Chandimal and Thisara Perera, captains for the ODI and T20 clashes with England respectively, are included in the squad but have been overlooked for leadership roles.

Mathews, another former captain, comes back into a 17-man squad after being dropped for the matches against England due to concerns over his fitness.

Spinner Akila Dananjaya misses out after he was suspended from bowling due to an illegal action.
