Azroy Hazalwafie Izhar Ahmad ensured Malaysia got off to a good start at the 2018 Commonwealth Games by winning gold in the men's 56kg weightlifting category on day one.
The Rompin-born weightlifter, who turned 24 years old just a day earlier, lifted a combined 261kg (117kg in snatch and 144kg in clean and jerk) to finish ahead of India's P. Gururaja (249kg) and Sri Lanka's Chaturanga Lakmal (248kg).
In doing so, Azroy also broke two of Amirul Hamizan Ibrahim's Games records: the overall of 260kg set in Manchester in 2002, and the record of 116kg in snatch achieved at New Delhi 2010.
Amirul, meanwhile, still holds the Games record of 145kg in clean and jerk.
