James DeGale has launched a stinging Twitter attack on Chris Eubank Jr after the latter was beaten by George Groves in a super-middleweight title fight on Saturday.

Groves prevailed by margins of 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 on the judges' scorecards as he earned a place in the final of the World Boxing Super Series, despite suffering a suspected dislocated shoulder during the final round as Eubank launched a desperate onslaught.

Eubank – the son of former two-weight world champion Chris Eubank – was outclassed by Groves at the Manchester Arena and DeGale seemed to revel in the 28-year-old's performance.

"You are the biggest hype job I've never [sic] known," he tweeted. "You and your father going around telling people you are a killer! YOU should be very embarrassed.

"Now go crawl back under your rock."

DeGale – the 2008 Olympic middleweight champion – lost to Groves in his 11th professional fight in 2011.
