Otto Porter Jr underwent surgery on his left leg and will miss game six of the Washington Wizards' playoff series against the Toronto Raptors, the team announced on Friday.

The forward was diagnosed with compartment syndrome and the Wizards said an operation was necessary to prevent permanent muscular damage.

Porter has consequently been ruled out indefinitely and will likely be replaced by Kelly Oubre Jr in the starting line-up.

"Wizards forward Otto Porter Jr underwent a successful left lower leg fasciotomy for compartment syndrome earlier today," read a Washington statement.

"The procedure was required after clinical examination confirmed the diagnosis of compartment syndrome (a critical increase in pressure resulting from an injury) and was necessary to prevent permanent damage to the muscles in the leg."

Porter started 77 games for the Wizards in the regular season, finishing third on the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game and second in rebounding with 6.4 per contest.

Washington drew level after surrendering the first two games of the series to the Raptors, but a 108-98 win on Wednesday gave Toronto a 3-2 lead.
