The Thunder have suspended play-by-play man Brian Davis for an "insensitive" and "offensive" remark made during Oklahoma City's win over Memphis Wednesday.

In the game, Davis said Russell Westbrook was "out of his cotton-pickin' mind" after he picked up a steal in the second quarter.

The remark met with vitriol on social media and the Thunder addressed the comments to the media Thursday.

"We think obviously the use of that term was offensive and inappropriate, and I expressed that to Brian last night," Thunder vice president of broadcasting Dan Mahoney told the Norman Transcript. "Brian assures me that it was not meant in any derogatory way, and he apologizes. But again, we feel strongly that it’s inappropriate and offensive."

Davis apologized for the comment Friday.

"It is with great remorse and humility that I accept this suspension for the insensitive words I used during Wednesday's broadcast," Davis said in a statement. "While unintentional, I understand and acknowledge the gravity of the situation.

"I offer my sincere apology and realize that, while I committed a lapse in judgement, such mistakes come with consequence. This is an appropriate consequence for my actions."
