The Oklahoma City Thunder will be without leading scorer Paul George against the Philadelphia 76ers because of shoulder soreness.

Oklahoma City announced George's absence just hours before Thursday's NBA showdown at home to the high-flying 76ers.

George injured his shoulder during Tuesday's 121-112 loss to the Denver Nuggets, though it is not clear exactly when it happened.

He had ice on his shoulder after the game and missed Thursday's shootaround. The star is expected to "take it day by day" and there is no timetable yet on his return.

Thursday's game marks just the second George has missed this season as he previously was sidelined with a bruised right quad against the Phoenix Suns on December 28.

Dennis Schroder started in George's absence, scoring 20 points in 39 minutes.

George has helped Oklahoma City to a 38-22 record as they sit in third in the Western Conference behind the Golden State Warriors and Nuggets.

The 28-year-old has averaged 28.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists this season.
