Stephen Curry said it was a "special night" after breaking the NBA single-game record for three-pointers with 13 in the Golden State Warriors' win over New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
Two-time MVP Curry was in stunning form during the 116-106 victory at the Oracle Arena and nailed 13 of his 17 attempts from distance to surpass the record he previously shared with Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall.
The 28-year-old thought the record was in sight after nine successful efforts and was delighted to have secured a place in history.
Curry said in a post-match media conference: "That was the first time I thought about it [at nine or 10].
"I've been in that situation at other times where I had a shot at it down the stretch of the game, but this was a special night.
"I was able to get some open looks early and often and good things happen.
"The last few were pretty special, the flow of the game was kind of close and I made one or two - I call tough ones - and the last one was just kind of a heat check to see if it goes in or not, and thankfully it did."
Curry's performance came on the back of a dismal record of 0-from-10 in the 117-97 defeat to Los Angeles Lakers last Friday, and he credited the turnaround to hard work in training.
"I was hard on myself in practice the last two days, I had pretty good shooting sessions," he continued.
"I don't overreact to games like that, whether I go 0 and 10 or 2 and 12 - my process is the same. I had another level of focus the last few days, trying to get my rhythm back and see the ball go in.
"Me and our assistant coach Q [Bruce Fraser] had a couple good days of work and thankfully it translated to some success."
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr claimed he has come to expect such a powerful response from Curry.
He added: "That was quite a show. Not at all surprising the way Steph bounces back from bad nights, he's done it throughout his career.
"I didn't realise he set the record until we got into the locker-room. You could tell it was one of those nights from early on. [In the first quarter] he was really carrying us."
