Texas A&M freshman guard J.J. Caldwell has been dismissed from the team and fellow freshman guard Jay Jay Chandler has been suspended indefinitely after they were arrested early Sunday on charges of marijuana possession, according to multiple reports.

The two were arrested Sunday by A&M police earlier Sunday, the Houston Chronicle reported, citing the Brazos County Jail website. According to the Dallas Morning News, Chandler and Caldwell were charged with misdemeanor possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. Caldwell also was cited for speeding and violating a promise to appear in court. Both were released from jail Sunday.

Chandler has played in 24 of the Aggies' 25 games, providing a spark off the bench for coach Billy Kennedy's resurgent team (17-8, 6-6 in the SEC).

Considered a top national recruit, Caldwell has experienced multiple missteps and previous suspensions at A&M. His playing time diminished recently as another freshman, T.J. Starks, emerged. Caldwell sat out last season because of academics.

The Aggies were hit by injuries and multiple suspensions earlier in the season but have won four straight to climb onto the NCAA Tournament bubble with six games to go in the regular season.
