Richard Jefferson’s interesting NBA career is taking another turn.

Jefferson, 37, was traded from Cleveland to Atlanta on Saturday and released shortly thereafter. He cleared waivers at 5 p.m. ET Monday and shortly thereafter reached agreement on a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the Nuggets, according to multiple reports, all of which cited unidentified sources.

According to the Denver Post, Jefferson adds a veteran presence to a young Nuggets team aiming for its first playoff berth since 2013.

Jefferson joins a group of forwards that includes starters Paul Millsap and Wilson Chandler and features backups Trey Lyles, Kenneth Faried, Juancho Hernangomez and Tyler Lydon.

The Nuggets plan to waive veteran point guard Jameer Nelson to make room for Jefferson on their 15-man roster, according to ESPN.com.

As a key member of Eastern Conference champion Cavs' bench last season, Jefferson averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
