Whoever gets the head job for Pitt basketball will have a blank canvas, essentially.

Eight players will be granted their release from the program Friday to explore transfer options, ESPN.com reported.

Senior Ryan Luther, junior Malik Ellison, sophomore Kene Chukwuka and freshmen Parker Stewart, Marcus Carr, Khameron Davis, Terrell Brown and Shamiel Stevenson have all asked for permission to talk with other schools.

The wave of potential transfers follows the firing of Kevin Stallings, who went 24-41 in two seasons with the Panthers, including an 0-18 mark in ACC play this past season.

Leading scorer Jared Wilson-Frame and reserve freshmen Samson George and Peace Ilegomah are the only three returning players who haven’t asked for a release (yet).

Pitt has just one recruit in the 2018 class — three-star power forward Bryce Golden.
