Pistons forward Jon Leuer was never really able to get his year started, and Friday he opted for season-ending surgery, according to The Detroit News.

Leuer, playing his second season with the Pistons, featured in just eight games due to a severely sprained ankle. Leuer averaged more than 10 points and five rebounds per game last season.

The surgery will require a four-month rehabilitation period, effectively ending his season.

“It’s extremely frustrating. Disappointing, anger, all those emotions … we were trying to do whatever we could to avoid this,” Leuer said. “I knew even a month and a half ago when I saw the specialist that he kind of suggested (surgery) right away, but we wanted to see if we could try to manage the pain and hopefully get through the season.

“As I tried to progress, time and time again, I never even got really close to being able to practice or do full basketball activities.”

Anthony Tolliver, Henry Ellenson and Stanley Johnson will get more playing time throughout the remainder of the season with Leuer inactive.
