Oklahoma City Thunder's Paul George has replaced DeMarcus Cousins in Team LeBron James for the NBA All-Star game.

New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Friday's game against the Houston Rockets, ruling him out of the February 18 contest in Los Angeles.

On Saturday, the NBA announced George will replace Cousins on the roster.

Somewhat appropriately, George will join Thunder team-mate and reigning MVP Russell Westbrook on Team LeBron.

It is unclear whether George – set to make his fifth All-Star appearance – will start considering Cousins was elected a starter.

George is averaging 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on the season.

Cousins was putting up 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
