Patrick Ewing, Georgetown to meet Monday about coaching job, reports say

Georgetown legend Patrick Ewing will meet Monday with university officials about the vacant Hoyas men's basketball coaching job, according to multiple reports.

FanRag Sports reported Ewing is the preferred choice of John Thompson Jr., who coached Ewing as the Hoyas made three national championship game appearances and won one title in the mid-1980s. Thompson's son, John Thompson III, was fired last month after 13 seasons as Georgetown's coach.

Currently the Hornets' associate head coach, Ewing, 54, will be on the Washington, D.C., campus a day before Charlotte plays the Wizards. He already has had several "productive" phone conversations, Yahoo Sports' The Vertical reported, citing unidentified NBA sources, and previously was characterized as "a major candidate" for the job.

Ewing played seasons years in the NBA, 15 with the Knicks during a Hall of Fame career.
