Sue Bird, an 11-time WNBA All-Star and three-time champion, has joined the Denver Nuggets' front office, the team announced Friday.

“I’m really excited to join the Denver Nuggets organization," Bird, who will be will be a basketball operations associate, said in a statement. "I’m thankful for the opportunity and look forward to learning from some of the best.”

Bird, 38, recently wrapped up her 16th WNBA season, all with the Seattle Storm.

She was named to the WNBA All-Decade team in 2006, has been an All-WNBA first-team selection five times and currently ranks first in the WNBA in career games (508), minutes played (16,173) and assists (2,831) and is third in points (6,154), third in made 3-pointers (855) and fifth in steals (652). 

She was the first overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft after winning two national titles at UConn. She also is a four-time Olympic gold medalist.

“We are very excited to have Sue join our organization,” Nuggets president of basketball operations Tim Connelly said in a statement. “Her resume certainly speaks for itself and as a still active player she will offer an extremely unique perspective.”
