If you have any theories as to why LeBron James’ jersey split down the middle Tuesday against the Celtics, please contact Nike (not really, though).

The apparel company is investigating the matter, according to ESPN.com, as it begins its first year as the NBA's official uniform supplier.

In the preseason, Lakers guard Tyler Ennis had his jersey ripped, so Nike’s eight-year deal with the league (worth a reported $1 billion) is off to a rocky start.

Nike said its jerseys would wick sweat 30 percent faster than Adidas jerseys, but that doesn’t mean much if the stitching can’t hold up to NBA play.

The league is making the most of Tuesday’s incident by auctioning off James’ torn jersey with proceeds going to hurricane-relief efforts. As of Thursday morning, bidding had eclipsed $10,000.
