The Warriors appear to want to add a player.

Golden State has an open roster spot and it is looking to sign someone off of the buyout market, assistant general manager Kirk Lacob said during an interview Wednesday on Bay Area station 95.7 The Game.

“We always have lists. We always have contingency plans,” Lacob said. “You never know what’s going to happen in the NBA — who might get bought out as a surprise, who you think might (become available).”

Lacob said the team was originally exploring acquiring a center. But, the successful return of star center DeMarcus Cousins altered those plans.

“Our goal is to add a really good player — someone who fits in the locker room, who fits this team and just really wants to be part of a championship run and will understand their role," Lacob said. "So, we’re open to really anything.

"We’ve got a long list of potential players that could fit that and we’re just going to hope that somebody springs free and is available for us.”

Cousins — who missed the first 45 games of the season as he continued to recover from a torn Achilles tendon — has averaged 13.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 11 appearances with the Warriors.

Golden State was reportedly interested in Wesley Matthews when he was waived by the Knicks earlier this month. But, he signed with the Pacers.

The Warriors entered play Wednesday in first place of the Western Conference with a 41-15 record.
