NBA free agency rumors: Suns sign Jimmer Fredette to 2-year deal

Jimmer Fredette is returning to the United States.

The guard has signed a two-year deal with the Suns, The Athletic reported Thursday, citing unidentified league sources. According to the report, the second year is a team option.

The signing of Fredette comes at an appropriate time as Suns guard Tyler Johnson has missed multiple games due to a knee injury. Rookie De’Anthony Melton has started in his place, with veteran Jamal Crawford backing him up.

Fredette, 30, has been with the Shanghai Sharks since 2016 and has averaged at least 36 points per game in each of the last three seasons.

He was drafted at No. 10 overall by the Kings in the 2011 draft, where he remained until 2014. He also had stints with the Bulls, Pelicans and Knicks before heading overseas.

According to the report. Fredette is awaiting clearance from China before returning to the U.S.
