Rudy Gay is expected to be an unrestricted free agent.

The forward has decided to opt out of his player option worth $8.8 million with the Spurs next season, ESPN.com reported.

Gay, 31, signed a two-year deal with San Antonio last offseason worth $17 million, which did include the player option.

Gay was used primarily as a reserve and averaged 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He also played just 21.6 minutes per game, which is a career low.

The veteran has been plagued by injuries the past couple seasons, appearing in only 57 games for the Spurs and just 30 games the year before with the Kings.
