Enes Kanter may be on the verge of locking in financial security for next season.

Kanter is leaning toward opting in to the final year of his contract with the Knicks, according to ESPN.

Kanter's player option is worth $18.6 million for 2018-19, and opting in could end up being a wise decision on his part as he's not considered a top prize on the 2018 free-agent market with centers DeMarcus Cousins, DeAndre Jordan, Clint Capela and Jusuf Nurkic potentially on the move.

The Turkish big man averaged 14.1 points and 11 rebounds for a Knicks team that finished eleventh in the Eastern Conference with a 23-59 record. He came to New York in the trade that sent Carmelo Anthony to Oklahoma City last fall.

Even with Kanter opting in, the Knicks should still be able to sign free agents this summer with a projected $8.6 million non-tax midlevel exception and a $3.4 million biannual exception.
