The Celtics could be looking to add a veteran.

There is mutual interest between Boston and free agent Jamal Crawford, The Athletic’s Jared Weiss reported on a recent Celtics Beat podcast. The 38-year-old guard has been “waiting for the right situation to materialize” and “wants to be in a position to win a championship,” according to the report.

Crawford averaged 10.3 points and 2.3 assists in 2017-18, his lone season with the Timberwolves. He opted out of his contract with Minnesota in early May.

Crawford, an 18-year veteran, has won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award three times in his career. His best season came in 2007-08 when he averaged 20.6 points and five assists for the Knicks.

The Warriors reportedly inquired about Crawford this summer. He was also linked to the 76ers this offseason.

The Celtics were without forward Gordon Hayward for all but one game last season and star point guard Kyrie Irving went down with an injury in mid-March.

But Boston still finished 2017-18 with a 55-27 record and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals, where it fell to the Cavaliers in seven games.
