Monaco reach last 16 of Basketball Champions League

AS Monaco became the first team to secure automatic qualification to the Basketball Champions League Round of 16 by beating Banvit 65-63.

Monaco have won all but one of their 12 Group A matches and even if they fail to finish top they will skip the first phase of the play-offs as one of the three best second-places teams following their latest victory.

Dee Bost scored 14 points and plucked five rebounds for the team from the Principality, who were pushed all the way by second-placed Banvit but held on to go two points clear of their opponents after Gameday 12.

Third-placed Aris and Fraport Skyliners, who occupy fifth, came out on top against CEZ Nymburk and Bakken Bears respectively in the other Group A matches.

Group E leaders Besiktas Sompo Japan hammered Dinamo Sassari 100-70, but the Sardinia-based side can still advance if they remain in fifth place. Szolnoki Olaj were also winners in Group E.

Iberostar Tenerife remain on course to take top spot in Group D after beating Telenet Oostende 64-57, while Cibona downed Juventus Utena, Mega Leks got the better of SIG Strasbourg, and bottom side KK Mornar shocked Sidigas Avellino.

It is all to play for in Group B after Avtodor Saratov brought a halt to their three-game losing streak to beat Maccabi Rand Media 81-71 and sit fifth, with leaders Le Mans Sarthe edging out Pinar Karsiyaka 65-61.
