As Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina on Friday, Hornets owner Michael Jordan quickly announced immediate relief and support with the help of the NBA.

The North Carolina native launched an initiative to assist the relief efforts of a number of local organizations. According to a statement from Jordan, the NBA and the Hornets have already pitched in by making undisclosed donations.

"It's truly devastating for me to see the damage that Hurricane Florence is doing to my beloved home state of North Carolina and to the surrounding areas. The recovery effort will be massive, and it will take a long time to repair the damage and for families to get back on their feet. Together with the NBA, we have launched a platform to aid those most impacted. Please join me, the Hornets organization and the NBA and donate to one of the local organizations assisting the relief and recovery efforts. To all those affected, stay safe and know that we're here to help."

There is a platform available that has identified verified local organizations focusing on hurricane relief and recovery efforts, including the American Red Cross, Direct Relief, Foundation for the Carolinas, Second Harvest Food Bank and the United Way of Central Carolinas.

Hurricane Florence reached Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina early Friday morning and could bring 10-15 inches of rain to Charlotte over the weekend. A number of emergency shelters have opened for people displaced by evacuations from the state’s eastern and coastal counties.
