Hornets guard Malik Monk will be out six to eight weeks with a broken right thumb, the team announced Saturday.

The 20-year-old suffered the injury Friday near the end of his team’s 88-87 win over the Thunder in the Las Vegas Summer League. Monk played 27 minutes and scored 23 points in the game.

Monk was not seen wearing a cast at the Hornets' practice Saturday, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Monk was selected by the Hornets with the 11th pick in the 2017 draft. He averaged 6.7 points per game and shot 34.2 percent from 3-point range during his rookie season.

Monk will miss the rest of summer league but he should be healthy for the start of training camp in the fall.

The Hornets finished 2017-18 with a 36-46 record and missed the playoffs. They fired coach Steve Clifford in mid-April after five seasons and replaced him with former Spurs assistant James Borrego.
