The Magic have waived forward Adreian Payne in the wake of the Michigan State sexual assault scandal, according to ESPN.

Payne was a two-way player currently on the roster for the Lakeland Magic in the G-League.

The former Spartans basketball player was named along with Keith Appling in a sexual assault case which occured at Michigan State in 2010.

Ingham County prosecutors declined to press charges at the time for the crime, however, Payne was quoted as saying in the case he could “understand how she would feel that she was not free to leave.”

The incident resulted in on-campus protests when Payne and Appling were allowed to continue playing basketball and remain at the school.

Payne was a first-round pick in 2014 by the Hawks. He played in five games for the Magic this season averaging 4.2 points per game.
