Lonzo Ball's anticipated debut with the Lakers didn't go as planned in a 108-92 loss the Clippers Thursday night.

The 19-year-old UCLA product sat on the bench the entire fourth quarter as the Clippers pulled away. He managed just three points on the night much to the chagrin of his father LaVar Ball, who was watching the game from a Staples Center suite.

Lonzo looked like a player making a first appearance at the NBA level as he was humbled by star defender Patrick Beverley, who took it to Ball early. Lakers coach Luke Walton said players were going to go after the rookie prior to Thursday's game and Walton was quickly proven right.

Here are some other things we noticed in Ball's debut.

1. Ball was active in the paint

Ball might not be the best defender or the toughest guy on the court, but he actively tries to be. He was in the paint all night long looking for rebounds, and even when he was pushed around by Beverly, he kept coming at him even if he only got 1 of 6 shots to fall.

The former UCLA point guard tallied eight rebounds in the first half alone. He only added one in the second half, but his distribution got better in the third quarter to make up for that.

2. Ball lived up to his promise

While Ball may have most of his success in other players' shoes during the summer league, he said he was going to play in the Big Baller Brand shoes and he did just that.

Ball wore his Zo2 Prime shoes for his debut and once again had some trouble scoring. He finished with three points on 1-of-6 shooting.

3. Ball can fill up a stat sheet once shots start falling

Ball was not an All-Star in his first appearance with the Lakers, but he showed he can grab rebounds and setup his teammates well. Once he can get his shots to fall, look out.

Ball finished the night with three points, nine rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. He'll need to improve on his defense too after registering a minus-14.
