Kyrie Irving pulled out all the stops to make sure he was traded away from the Cavaliers last summer.

According to Cleveland.com, Irving asked team owner Dan Gilbert for the trade. When Gilbert initially said no, Irving threatened to have knee surgery, which would cause him to miss time.

Although the surgery would be minor, he said he wouldn't come to training camp and then opt to have the surgery during the season.

That ultimatum was enough to persuade Gilbert and the Cleveland front office to honor Irving's wish and trade him.

In the offseason's biggest trade, Irving was sent to the Celtics in for Jae Crowder, Isaiah Thomas, Ante Zizic and two draft picks.

That deal has proven sour for the Cavaliers so far this season, with Thomas missing the first part of the season because of a hip injury and Crowder recently benched amid Cleveland's midseason slump and apparent upheaval in the locker room.

Meanwhile, the Celtics and Irving have flourished, with Boston sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings and Irving averaging 24.5 points per game.
