The Kings are locked in a competitive race this season... for the worst record in the NBA, and they are taking it very seriously.

Coach Dave Joerger said after Monday's 95-88 loss to the Thunder that he will sit two veterans every game for the rest of the season, effectively weakening a team currently with the third-worst record in the NBA.

It means guys like Zach Randolph, George Hill, Vince Carter, Bogdan Bogdanovic and possibly Willie Cauley-Stein could see significantly less game time to make way for Sacramento's new strategy.

Already young, the Kings could now have just one veteran on their active roster every night. Second-year player Buddy Hield and rookie De'Aaron Fox will now lead the team most nights. Fox did have a nice dunk Monday.

In all seriousness, tanking has been a problem in the NBA for a while now, and this seems like a clear move toward earning the No. 1 pick in next year's draft. Even if the Kings finish with the worst record, they could still lose the first overall pick in the lottery, but they would have the best chance at securing the top pick.

Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III is largely regarded as the top prospect in this year's draft. It might be safe for him to buy a Kings jersey if this tactic holds firm all season.
