The Pelicans announced Tuesday the guard underwent successful surgery to repair his core muscle injury and is expected to resume basketball activities in about six weeks.

Holiday, who last played March 6, had been out since the beginning of the month with what the team called a lower abdominal strain. His return to the court this season was already unlikely and is probably definitive with just eight games left in the season.
The Pelicans (31-44) sit at the bottom of the Western Conference, ahead of only the Grizzlies, Mavericks and Suns.
Holiday, 28, was averaging a career-high 21.2 points, 7.7 assists and a career-high 5.0 rebounds per game in his 10th NBA season and sixth in New Orleans.
