Joel Embiid is not happy with the 76ers.
Coach Brett Brown told reporters Monday that Embiid's minutes would be "somewhere in the teens" because the team has decided to be cautious with him.
Embiid found out later about what Brown said and says he was unaware of the plan.
"I didn't know about that, but (the minutes restriction) is very disappointing," Embiid said, via Philly.com. "I feel great and hopefully that changes based on (Monday's) practice and (Tuesday's) practice."
Ever since Embiid was drafted by the Sixers, he has battled various injuries that have limited his playing time. Last season, he appeared in just 31 games before an knee injury sustained Jan. 27 sidelined him for the rest of year.
However, the team must see long-term potential in Embiid, 23, since it just signed him to a five-year, $146.5 million extension. He said he plans to appeal to the Sixers for more playing time as the team prepares for its opener Wednesday against the Wizards.
“I got a voice,” Embiid said. “They got to listen to me. … If I feel great and my body feels great and my knee is fine, I should play 30 minutes or more. I definitely have my opinion on that.
“They are going to hear me. We are going to discuss it.”
By Tuesday afternoon, things didn't appear to change, with a reporter from the Philly Voice claiming Embiid called his minutes restriction "f—ing bull—."
During his 31 games last season, he played an average of 24.5 minutes per game and scored 20.2 points with 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
