Carmelo Anthony's tenure in Houston is already bottoming out.
According to The Athletic, which cited league sources, the Rockets have engaged in talks with the star forward regarding his role with the team and "are seriously weighing his roster situation."
The report comes after Anthony sat out the team's 96-89 loss at San Antonio on Saturday due to "illness" despite being a full participant in practice on Friday.
Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni couldn't avoid the subject after the game but referred all questions about Anthony to general manager Daryl Morey.
"Yeah, that's ... I'm sure you can address that with Daryl. I'm trying to win a game," D'Antoni said. "You need to talk to Daryl. On that one, I have no answer for you right now."
When asked about Anthony's status moving forward, D'Antoni defended his player and insisted nothing will change.
“What he was doing, Melo’s been great,” D’Antoni said. “What he’s been doing is backing up the 4."
Anthony, 34, signed a one-year veteran's minimum deal worth $2.4 million with Houston in August after being traded from the Thunder to the Hawks. The 10-time All-Star is averaging 13.4 points on 40 percent shooting this season.
The Rockets (4-7) are next slated to host the Pacers (8-5) at 7 p.m. ET Sunday.
