Kemba Walker has reached another historic milestone.
The Hornets point guard became the first player in franchise history and 29th player in NBA history to reach 10,000 career points Saturday during the team's 113-112 win over the Heat.
"I feel like I’m dreaming. 10,000 points in the NBA. It’s crazy," Walker said after the game. "I work hard each and every summer, each and every day on my game to become a better player for my teammates, for the organization. Hard work always pays off."
Walker, already the Hornets' all-time leading scorer, entered the game 26 points shy of the feat and finished with 39 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds. He also set a league record with 19 three-pointers in the first three games of the regular season.
The two-time All-Star selection previously set a franchise record for most points scored in a season opener (41) three days earlier in the team's loss to the Bucks.
"Our team starts with him. He’s the head of the snake every night," Hornets coach James Borrego said of Walker. "He controls the game, but he understands and trusts his teammates. When he misses a shot, we want him to shoot the next one. He’s playing tremendous basketball right now at such a high level. He’s pulling these guys along with him."
Walker, 28, was selected with the ninth overall pick of the 2011 draft and has remained in Charlotte, N.C., since.
The Hornets (2-1) continue their four-game road trip Monday when they visit the Raptors (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET.
