Fred Hoiberg reacts to job rumors: 'My passion is in coaching'

Fred Hoiberg insists his place is on the court.

The former Bulls and Iowa State coach revealed he would rather coach than resume an NBA front-office role if given the opportunity.

"My passion is in coaching," Hoiberg told ESPN on Monday, "and I'm looking forward to what lies ahead."

The Timberwolves are rumored to have interest in Hoiberg, who worked in Minnesota's front office after retiring as an NBA player, following the firing of head coach Tom Thibodeau. Hoiberg has also been targeted by UCLA after the school parted ways with head coach Steve Alford.

Given his potential options, Hoiberg is keeping an open mind as he determines his next move.

"I am not prioritizing one over the other in respect to the NBA and college," Hoiberg said. "The jobs are so different that you cannot compare them, so I plan on evaluating whatever opportunities may come independently."

Hoiberg, 46, was fired by Chicago last month after a 5-19 start this season. He spent plenty of time on the hot seat in his three-plus seasons with the Bulls as he compiled a 115-155 mark during his tenure.
