Former Lakers forward Michael Beasley, who was waived by the Clippers earlier this month after a trade from the Lakers, has found a new basketball home.
In China.
ESPN reports the 6-9 forward is finalizing a deal with Guangdong of the Chinese Basketball Association. The short-term deal, for the final two months of the CBA season, will reportedly involve "significant cash."
It's the latest unexpected turn in a year that has been anything but routine for Beasley, 30. He earned viral attention in January when he tried to check into a Lakers game while wearing his practice shorts.
Earlier this month, Beasley emerged as one of the players involved in a heated locker-room exchange with Lakers coach Luke Walton following a loss. Beasley denied the event had turned physical, saying in a statement, "I've sat back in the past when stories have been twisted and misreported, but I won’t do that this time. I respect Luke and I respect this team. We are trying to win a championship together.”
Originally drafted No. 2 overall by Miami in the 2008 NBA Draft, Beasley has played for seven NBA teams. He averaged 7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game with the Lakers this season.
