The DeKalb County District Attorney's office has recommended Hawks guard Dennis Schroder be charged with felony aggravated battery for an incident which occurred in the fall of 2017, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The maximum penalty for the charge is 20 years in prison.

Schroder, 24, was arrested Sept. 29 in connection with the assault of a man which resulted in a torn ACL in the individual's leg in addition to several other injuries.

The Hawks' guard was one of four men allegedly involved in the assault at a metro-Atlanta shopping center parking lot.

The Hawks had no comment when informed of the charges, but they did make a statement in October after Schroder's arrest.

“That behavior is unacceptable, will not be tolerated by the Hawks organization, and will result in discipline for Dennis at the appropriate time once the matter has been more fully developed through the law enforcement process and otherwise,” Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said in the statement. “Dennis has accepted responsibility for his actions. He looks forward to learning from this incident and focusing on the season.”

Per the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, a player convicted of a violent felony will be suspended for a minimum of 10 games.
