Pelicans star forward DeMarcus Cousins was helped off the court in obvious pain Friday with just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of New Orleans' home game against Houston.

The team announced Saturday that Cousins has been diagnosed with a rupture of his left Achilles tendon after undergoing an MRI. Cousins will have surgery to repair the injury and will miss the remainder of the season.

Cousins was slated to start in next month's All-Star Game, but will be sidelined with a projected recovery time of six to 10 months, according to ESPN.

Cousins had a triple-double (15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists) in Friday night's eventual 115-113 win at home over the Rockets before the injury.
